The officials of CAAN (civil aviation authority of Nepal) informed republica, “Service provider has already set up in the sector.” Tribhuvan International Airport’s (TIA) spokesperson Prem Nath Thakur stated, “The work will commence after achieving the endorsement for the plan.” But most probably the construction will start on Thursday.
Division of project into 3 packages
- NCB-01 runway extension that will be completed within a period of 21 months
- NCB-02 international terminal building expansion that adds a floor in the previous building has to be completed within 18 months
- NCB-03 utility works is estimated to complete within 1 year
Contracts are already given by the civil aviation regulator to the Chinese company Shanxi Constructor Engineering Group Corporation, Prera and Ashish Construction as well as Nepali joint venture Sharma, Ashish Prera JV Nepal. Contractors have explored the project site by now and waiting for the approval of work schedule to start the project, said CAAN’s spokesperson and deputy director Birendra Prashad Shrestha. All 3 projects will finished the work within 2-2.5 years.
Investment for Tribhuvan International Airport project
According to CAAN, TIA project needs an investment of US$92 million from which ADB (Asian Development Bank) gives a loan of $80 million and government is contributing $12 million.
