Condition of Tribhuvan Airport

How is the standing and condition of our national and international airport?

Our country has only one international airport and many domestic air-port spread over different part of country. When evaluating, we look into some factors such as infrastructure, management, service, technology, security, reliability. By just measuring through these windows, we arrive at the in-disputable conclusion that there is space for a lot of improvement.
The infrastructure turned 25 years old since its last renovation and is currently running its 60th year since beginning. Air-ports that are in other parts of world are so enormous that people get lost or even find space to live in until getting caught. There are enough elements to entertain your fancies inside the air-space. You will never travel the full length and breadth of those air-spaces. Modern engineering has been applied here, to make the best out of natural calamities and also to be amazing and grand to eyes. Placed side-by-side, the international airport in Kathmandu, blushes and looks down for not being able to stand in the same lime-light as its comrades.
Millions of people catch their flights from various terminals each and every day. The flow is relentless and always moving. Without the presence of a proper management, this smooth flow can be like handling herds of angry cattles while crossing a river. In all its glory, because Tribhuvan International airport is comparatively small, the management team is pretty solid and working up to limits with open eyes and warm hearts.
An airport is a feat of 21st century magnificence. People, think, you are getting to fly in the sky. This sentence should be enough to raise thousand questions. And you get to fly in a chair, with hostesses serving hot meals while a whole city passes 20,000 feet below. You are higher than any hills or mountain, out of the little oval window, you are soaring among clouds. You don’t have to worry about driving or landing, the pilot handles that and you can even go for a short release (or a long one) while moving at the speed of sound (340m/s). This is what our technology has gifted to us. But, behind the scene there notable characters making this happen. It’s not simple to take a 20,000 ton flying object and lift it off ground. So, the complexities that are involved in here are proper communication, route guidance, and air-traffic and plane health.

Death-rate/ mortality rate by aviation in Nepal?

An air-craft, like us, is prone to uncertainties. A flight that left Kathmandu, with all inspection, could never reach the set destination. Some of the causes are listed below:

1) Pilot error
One of the main reasons for plane coming down at places other than runways is due to pilot. Almost half of all plane crash is debated to be in the hands of pilot. The conditions may have already gone out of hand by the time the pilot comprehends the situation. Misreading equipment, misjudging weather, untimely realization of mechanical error and sometimes even because of irrational pilots who have mental problems.

2) Mechanical Error

Mechanical failures may be because of interior damage or exterior damage. 22% of all flight crash is due to mechanical error. Flaw in plane design, engine failure are some interior mechanical failure. Birds or any object obstructing the functioning of all gears can be refered to as exterior mechanical error.

3) Weather
Storms, roaring winds, fogs can spell doom are not very favourable conditions for pilots to be enjoying the miracle to flight. 12% of all plane crash for due to meteorological uncertainty. Many times lightning caused electrical failure has disabled proper functioning of an air-craft. Fogs can hide run-ways that confuse pilots to finding ground to land plane.

4) Sabotage

These are hijacked planes by extremist groups for unfriendly purpose. Around 9% of total plane crash fall under this premise. These group carry guns, drugs, bombs for rebellion but never care for the lives of people at stake. Sometimes, mentally ill people also tend to attack pilots at some point of their madness, which deprives the plane of its guide, resulting in mayhem.

What is the future like?

With a lot of breath in my heart and release, I look at the future that could preside over our aviation system. I do look at it with hopefulness but more importantly, sincerity. Somewhere, in every basic prospering life, sincerity has been playing major role to define the outcome. Today, here, as I write these very lines, the sincerity to manifest into a better industry, should not fade away and should be kept alive at any cost.
With this sincerity in heart and mind, we strive to create a better line of professionals, infrastructure, service, technology and management. And the future is like any other leading facility in the world or even better.
